fought cancer for many years and survived it's deadly sting. Indeed she is a
living testimony. Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu is the founder of BRECAN (Breast
Cancer Association of Nigeria) a Non-governmental organization established to
aid women and the general public fight against cancer.

Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu
chose the Topic: It’s time to make BREAST CANCER a National Health Priority,
and this lecture was delivered by Dr. Adeleye Adisa, department of surgery,
Obafemi Awolowo University teaching hospital, Ile-Ife. The lecture was delivered eloquently; addressing
the issue of the nonchalant attitude many Nigerians have towards this disease.
He also emphasized ways in which this disease can be detected easily at the
early stage and various other measures of overcoming this challenge. He also
emphasized the need for this fight to go beyond individual battle and the
reason why the government needs to intervene in the matter due to the financial
aspect of curing the disease; and how many victims have died due to no adequate
funding for the cancer operations and drugs. After the educative lecture,
various other distinguished guests responded by asking questions and also
contributing.
After the lecture was the
unveiling of the Mrs. B. Anyanwu-Akeredolu’s photograph; indeed to the amazement
of the invited guests it was the photograph of Mrs. Betty after the Breast
cancer operation, it was a moment of mixed feelings and thanksgiving as many of
the guest shed tears of joy and happiness for her life, and this led to the
general donation towards BRECAN in support and aid of women who are cancer
victims.
The occasion then proceeded to
the part of the entertainment of guests, trust me it was a joyful moment and of
thanksgiving to God for the life of Mrs. Betty Chioma Anyanwu-Akeredolu a
Warrior and a Victor, a Woman of greatVirtue, a Mother to many and a Wife to
ONE. Indeed it was a celebration of LIFE.
